Clearswift Releases Enhanced Web and Email Gateway Features for Social Media and Mobile Message Management

Award-winning security solutions vendor, Clearswift, now offer pre-defined Web 2.0 policies and iPhone interface for Personal Message Management Portal.

London, UK 20 December 2011 – Clearswift today unveiled Secure Web Gateway 2.5 and Secure Email Gateway 3.4, the latest versions of the company’s award-winning web and email security solutions.  By improving usability of Clearswift’s flexible policy engines with pre-defined social networking rules that allow business-appropriate use of LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, customers can achieve data and system security whilst enabling Web 2.0 technology choices.  In addition, Clearswift’s Personal Message Management (PMM) Portal offers the industry’s first iPhone interface for managing quarantined emails allowing users to securely release and delete held emails from their iPhone.

Clearswift CTO Alf Pilgrim says that these latest product releases underpin the company’s belief that security policies should embrace the evolution of workplace technology, not shy away from it. “Intelligent content inspection and flexible policies allow users to get on with their jobs while ensuring data security, compliance and brand protection,” said Pilgrim, adding that the growing trend towards social media use in the workplace made traditional stop and block approaches redundant.

Supported customers will automatically receive the updates and will include the following key features:

Secure Web Gateway 2.5:

Web 2.0 Policies – Allowing the productive, secure use of social media sites has been made easier with the addition of specific policy routes for LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. This highly granular function allows policies to be set at global, departmental or individual user level: For example, the marketing department can be given unlimited access to Facebook while other users can only use the site during lunch breaks. Each route comes with pre-populated content rules, allowing policies to be defined according to the specific capabilities of any given website – blocking certain kinds of information from being posted on Twitter, for example. The policies are configured to respond dynamically to web site changes and updates, including the recent upgrades to Twitter and YouTube.

Gateway Reporter – Maintains the audit database in a single, off-box location, eliminating the need for multiple backups from each peer. This provides greater deployment flexibility, reducing the load on the Gateway and offering a single repository for all audit data. The Gateway reporter includes a consolidated system health view for further ease of administration.

Configurable alarm thresholds – Allows the fine-tuning of system event alerts. Administrators set their own thresholds for triggering alerts based on incidents such as disk failure, license expiry or system resources such as disk space reaching a set value.

Secure Email Gateway 3.4:

PMM Portal iPhone interface – This industry-first iPhone app allows permitted users to read and delete emails held in their portal in the same way as they do via a browser. The app is available for download from the iTunes app store.

Encryption enhancements - Reduces management overheads through automatic S/MIME and PGP key extraction, import and harvesting. When local keys cannot be found, the “Key Server Query” feature will search external servers for a public key that can be used to encrypt an email. In the event that none is found, fallback conditions are triggered.

Message release and inform – This self-service function allows permitted users to release or delete quarantined messages without having to log-in to the administration UI. Trusted senders and recipients can, in certain approved contexts, bypass scanning or release urgent, business-critical messages without having to wait for IT approval.
