The key to maintaining business integrity against Content Security threats
is an acceptable usage policy that defines what is acceptable to send or receive
in e-mail. Clearswift recommends a three phase approach to policy deployment:
- establish the acceptable usage policy
- educate and seek the consent of employees
- enforce the Policy with a Content Security solution
By using this approach the employees are kept well-informed of
their obligations to the company and the company is well-protected.
To enable evaluators and implementers to configure MAILsweeper with the foundations
of good policies, Clearswift has developed Sample Policies, which can be applied
to MAILsweeper for Exchange installations. These Sample Policies are compiled
from the many years of experience of MIMEsweeper Research group and ThreatLab
resulting in suggested configurations to address particular business and security
needs.
Please note that the PolicyMate application that installs the sample
policies has been extended from the original application (PolicyInstaller)
that was previously available.
When PolicyMate installs a new policy it also defines a system
DSN and establishes the ODBC connection. This means that the auditing
feature can be used during the evaluation process to generate the
management reports detailing message volumes, top authors, top senders
and busiest times for email traffic.
Note: Sample Policies overwrite the current MAILsweeper
for Exchange 2000 policy.
The Sample Policy should be applied only after initial installation
or where configuration information is no longer required. These
Sample Policies are complete configurations that replace the current
policy and do not add to any current policy configuration.
Note: The Policy Installation process cannot install any
third-party tool (such as an anti-virus tool) as the location
of any third-party application will not be set up in the Sample
Policy.
For detailed installation instructions please read the User
Guide.
