TRUSTmanager ™

You can now automatically check the reputation of all connecting SMTP hosts against a constantly updated database of reputation scores provided by Clearswift. The host is then evaluated for previous spam related activities and awarded a "reputation score". The TRUSTmanager score, ranging from zero (a recognised spam source) to 100 (indicating no previous spam-related activities) can be adjusted to trigger at differing levels to suit the needs of individual organisations.

How it works
Clearswift’s TRUSTmanager is a community-based feedback loop. Its strength comes from the experiences of Clearswift’s customers.

TRUSTmanager observes every IP address that connects to MIMEsweeper email appliances. Every 15 minutes statistics are posted to Clearswift with information about each IP address such as:

  • How many messages have come from an IP address
  • How many spam messages
  • How many non-spam messages
  • What violation occurred / which filter was triggered
  • Whether good or rejected
  • Is it a virus sender
  • Sender Domain

TRUSTmanager uses this snapshot and historic information to calculate a Reputation Score on IP addresses. It can then categorize an IP address into “reputable or non-reputable”. Based on this information gathered from a wide source, TRUSTmanager queries the score of each IP address as it makes a connection to your email appliance, therefore killing any non-reputable connections (and spammers) at source.

Flexible
TRUSTmanager queries all connections by default. However, if desired, it is possible to override. There are global whitelists within TRUSTmanager, so that you can correct and whitelist companies that your organization knows and trusts (e.g. Your managed service provider or ISP).

TRUSTmanager ensures that the volume of traffic hitting your actual spam engine and content filter is massively reduced, allowing your email appliance to get on with its job effectively.

By stopping spam at source, TRUSTmanager enables the email appliance to concentrate on protecting your organization from inbound and outbound threats such as confidentiality leaks, loss of intellectual property, employee harassment and zero-day virus outbreaks.
