Q. Why don’t you offer a service running under UNIX? I’m not bothered what flavor but why NT?
A. As over 90% of threats originate in, or are delivered via Microsoft products we have to use Microsoft dlls to decompose the Compound Document Architecture (CDA).

Q. We can get a competitively priced deal with anti-virus vendors to offer a security service for our users. Why use e-Sweeper?
A. We’re sure you are aware that simple anti-virus checking doesn’t cover the whole issue. Content security as addressed by e-Sweeper™ spans email attachments, spam, hoaxes, bandwidth sapping unauthorized attachments of video, image and commercially sensitive material as well as misuse of email exposing users to legal liability. Our service offers all this and more. We recursively decompose email into it’s base form and then recognize file signatures, which means we can find threats buried many levels deep in zip files or compound documents. We think you will agree that any service you offer should effect the very best protection in the industry, e-Sweeper delivers exactly that.

Q. Is e-Sweeper a ‘one size fits all’ solution?
A. Not at all. We have service options that will appeal to the entire spectrum of your clients and allow you to offer managed, partially managed or wholly unmanaged services.

  • The Individual Essential is administered by the service provider on a single domain basis on behalf of their clients. It comprises the full recursive anti-virus checking module and results in suspect email being quarantined.
  • The Individual Personal service adds a spam filtering option and allows end-users to see and either delete or release their own quarantined mail.
  • The Business Standard service allows business end-users to configure their own anti-virus and anti-spam strategies and gives access to quarantine areas, reporting, inbound and outbound custom inform messages, legal disclaimers and bypass lists that allow fine tuning of their policies.
  • The Business Enterprise service expands the standard offering by including attachment checking by type and size for videos, documents, images, and executables and also encompasses encrypted email and inappropriate language checking.

Q. How much latency does your service introduce in my e-mail stream?
A. In practice, very little. We site our service hardware in your own network at your operations center, which means we can run at the full speed of your own service.

Q. I’m not sure we want your solution to be the first point of contact in our mail link. How flexible can you be?
A. We will tailor our solution to comply with most requirements you may have. Obviously some issues are easier to deal with than others are but we will work with you to provide the most appropriate win/win solution.

Q. Will you pester our business users with direct advertising of any form?
A. Absolutely not. We insert a small ' e-Sweeper, powered by MIMEsweeper' tag, which lends credibility to the service you are providing. Additionally when viruses are discovered, our anti-virus partners will have a tag reporting that their product was responsible for the detection and will provide a link to their Web site - again building confidence and trust in your customers base.

Q. Why should we trust such a fundamental part of our security service portfolio to Clearswift (formerly Content Technologies)?
A. Quite simply because we lead the field in content security. This is our business, our only business, and we have a passion for delivering the very best in market for you and your customers. We are content security breadth and depth.

Q. I’m not sure that I’m happy with trusting my SMTP stream to a single Windows 2000 machine.
A. We have run sizing tests and are confident with the number of machines we require to process a given number of users. We can load balance and put redundant servers in place if you require this, at a higher monthly minimum subscription fee.

Q. What do our business users see when they configure the service?
A. Their configuration takes place on a web site that is branded for your business and links off your web site. You may choose to offer the service as a managed solution in which case you simply log-in to the admin site as if you were the client business.

Q. What happens if I leave the configurations at their default?
A. All email will be virus scanned and any email containing viruses will be quarantined and a default inform message will be sent to the administrator, sender recipient for inbound viruses and to the administrator and sender for outbound viruses.

Q. How much are we allowed to charge for the e-Sweeper service?
A. Charge what you will - or even give it away! We charge you on a per user per month basis with a starting monthly charge. What you charge for your service is entirely up to you.
