Founded in 2006, Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust covers a catchment area of some 33 miles with a population of 330,000 in North Merseyside and surrounding areas. It is a large, complex organisation that, in addition to being a teaching hospital, provides acute and tertiary care as well as specialist services to a wider population of around 1.5 million people in Merseyside, Cheshire, South Lancashire and North Wales. Aintree UH is jointly one of 12 centres of excellence in Europe and enjoys an international reputation as a centre for multi-disciplinary research and development.
